Day 1

Travel Day. Flights will arrive in Las Vegas (LAS), and we’ll have a three to four hour trip to our destination. It’s a scenic drive with stops along the way. We’ll enter Zion National Park in the late afternoon, the best time of day to soak in the sights of this monumental canyon. From the park, we travel through the historic mile-long Zion-Mt. Carmel tunnel just before arriving at our private mountain home.

Day 2

Heart of Zion. Our first day of exploring will take us into the heart of Zion National Park. A number of great hiking trails are accessible along main canyon road, including the popular Angel’s Landing, reached by a heart-pounding climb up and across a narrow precipice. We will want to start early to avoid the crowds.

  • Scheduled Hikes: Angel’s Landing (5.4 miles) and Emerald Pools (3.0 miles)
  • Picnic lunch at Zion Lodge
  • Stop inside Visitor Center for trail maps and souvenirs

Day 3

Bryce Canyon National Park. A one-hour drive from the house, Bryce Canyon is a world apart from Zion Canyon. And the hiking is completely different. Here, you hike into a deep canyon, a great amphitheater filled with beautiful and bizarre rock spires called hoodoos. Many of the formations have names or stories attached to them, and all can cast a spell.

  • Scheduled Hike: Peekaboo Loop via Queen’s Garden (6.6 miles)
  • Half-day horseback tours are available in lieu of hiking
  • Picnic lunch at historic lodge/visitor center

Day 4

Zion’s Backcountry. This day we avoid the crowds and start from a trailhead outside the park boundaries. This aggressive all-day hike will take us from the high plateau, down through beautifully sculpted canyons, and back up to an eye-popping viewpoint overlooking Angel’s Landing and other famous monuments.

  • East Rim Trail through Echo Canyon to Observation Point (10.5 miles RT)
  • Lunch packed for the trail

Day 5

Zion Canyoneering. At the very end of Zion Canyon Road is where the Virgin River emerges from a deep, narrow canyon. This is where we start our day’s adventure. On this unusual hike, the river itself is our trail as towering canyon walls grow taller and tighter around us. We will at times be hiking ankle, knee or waist deep in water. No technical skills or gear required. This is a quintessential Zion experience and a spectacular life-list hike.

  • Scheduled Hike: The Narrows (8 miles)
  • Lunch packed for the trail

Day 6

Travel Day. With late afternoon departures from Las Vegas, we’ll ease our way back into civilization, indulging in scenic stops and a leisurely lunch along the way.

My husband and I went on the Utah hiking trip October 2016. Five Stars and one word describes the trip... Perfect. The accommodations were incredible, the meals were delicious and the support and help from guides Joe and Lisa was invaluable. We would not have been able to fully experience this amazing part the world without Fit 4 Adventure. An extra plus is the terrific people in our group who were so much fun to hang with for a week - lots of laughs!!!
